Google Provides College Students with Complimentary Access to Gemini Advanced and 2 TB of Storage

Previously offering a 50% discount, Google is now providing US college students 15 months of complimentary access to Gemini Advanced and Google One AI Premium.

Google presents this initiative as a means to support students as they approach finals, while also positioning itself against comparable offerings from OpenAI and Perplexity:

Students can sign up until June 30, 2025, gaining 15 months of free access once activated. An .edu email address is required, but the service will be activated on their personal Gmail/Google Account.

Those who previously enrolled in the 50% discount or are already subscribers of Google One need to cancel their current subscription and wait for their billing cycle to conclude before accessing this new offer.

Typically, Google One AI Premium costs $19.99 per month. This plan includes 2 TB of storage across Gmail, Google Drive, and Photos, along with scheduling features in Google Calendar and extended Google Meet calls. Additionally, users enjoy unlimited Magic Editor saves in Google Photos and a 10% discount on Google Store purchases.

On the AI front, subscribers gain access to the Gemini side panel in Gmail, the “Help me write” feature in Google Docs, image generation in Slides, and data analysis options in Sheets, among other functionalities.

The NotebookLM Plus tier offers:

  • Generate 5 times more Audio Overviews: 20 daily compared to 3 on the free plan
  • Manage up to 500 notebooks instead of 100
  • Add 300 sources per notebook while the free version allows only 50
  • Initiate 500 chat queries per day versus just 50

Furthermore, Gemini Advanced provides extended access to 2.5 Pro (experimental) features and Deep Research, driven by the latest model. Google also highlights Canvas and Gemini Live as beneficial tools for students.
