Apple is gearing up for multiple product introductions in early 2025, including fresh iPads, an anticipated Mac, a new iPhone, and more. Here’s a preview of what’s ahead, and whether it’s the ideal time to purchase Apple’s current offerings.
Should You Buy Now or Wait? Here’s What You Need to Know
Traditionally, when Apple unveils new devices, the older versions are retired. For instance, a new Mac launch often coincides with the discontinuation of its predecessor.
Moreover, as new products near release, existing models usually become available at significant discounts. This is partly due to their aging model status and because Apple must clear inventory for the upcoming launches.
With a range of updates expected in early 2025, it’s either a fantastic or terrible time to buy previous models:
- If you’re apprehensive about a new model replacing your recent purchase, you might want to hold off.
- On the other hand, if you’re seeking excellent deals on capable hardware, now is a prime time to shop.
Below are the devices set to receive upgrades soon, along with the best discounts on the current models.
M3 MacBook Air
The MacBook Air, Apple’s most sought-after Mac, is set to receive an M4 upgrade in early 2025.
According to recent trends with Apple’s M4 Macs, expect features such as:
- a 12MP Center Stage camera
- extended battery life
- possibly a nano-texture display option
On the whole, it looks like a solid investment, but budget buyers should note that the M3 MacBook Air recently got an upgrade to 16GB of RAM. It’s presently priced at just $844 (down from $1,099). So you’ll have to consider: are the new features worth the additional $250?
iPhone SE 3
The iPhone SE is set for a significant upgrade in March, expected to feature an edge-to-edge OLED display with Face ID and notch, an A18 chip for enhanced Apple Intelligence capabilities, a 48MP primary camera, USB-C, and additional features.
While the new iPhone SE 4 may be worth waiting for, those who prefer retaining the Home Button on their iPhone should consider purchasing the current SE 3 before it’s likely phased out. At present, refurbished units are priced as low as $183.
iPad (10th Generation)
The iPad base model has not seen updates since its impressive release in late 2022, which enhanced its design by removing the Home Button and reducing bezels.
The 11th generation iPad is anticipated to debut in early 2025, but specific feature information remains sparse. It’s likely that an Apple Intelligence-compatible chip will be included, although no guarantees exist for Apple’s budget iPad.
If you’re considering an iPad purchase now, the 10th generation model is currently available for just $249 with a coupon (a reduction from $349)—a considerable saving for what remains an excellent device.
M2 iPad Air
Despite having just launched the M2 iPad Air in May, there are indications a new version may come in early 2025. I suspect it will be closer to the mid-year mark, potentially in May again. Currently, not much is known regarding the forthcoming Air, except for its expected upgrade to the M3 chip.
Should that affect your upgrade decision? Probably not, especially since you can get a 13-inch M2 Air for $699 (down from $799), with most 11-inch models seeing a $100 discount as well.
Potential Updates: Apple Watch SE and AirTag
Furthermore, two additional products could see updates in early 2025, but they may also launch later.
There have been consistent rumors concerning a new Apple Watch SE, which might debut alongside the iPhone SE 4. However, it’s equally possible that we’ll need to wait until fall for a new release. As of now, the current Apple Watch SE is priced at just $149 (down from $249).
AirTag 2 is also on the horizon in 2025, with reports suggesting a mid-year release. If you’re looking to purchase an AirTag and can’t wait that long, the existing AirTag is currently available for $24 (reduced from $30), or you can buy a 4-pack for $73 (down from $99).
Are you considering any of the products listed above? Or are you holding off for their 2025 iterations? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
