X CEO Confirms Drop In Active Daily Users On The Platform

Linda Yaccarino, if you have not heard of her already, is the CEO handpicked by Elon Musk for the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. You may have first heard of her because of the dubious interview she gave to Julia Boorstin of CNBC during the Code 2023 event held by Vox Media.

Regardless, the moments that went viral over the internet may have missed out on some vital information that the CEO had spilled. The most important of them was possibly that the social media platform X, formerly called Twitter, has continued losing active daily users since the Elon Musk takeover.

Is X A Sinking Ship?

During the interview that took place earlier in the week, Linda Yaccarino said that the number of active daily users of X is currently 225 million. That is a decline of several tens of millions. To be precise, it marks a loss of 11.6% of the users that were still using the platform right until Elon Musk took over the company. As per Musk’s tweets, which were posted in November 2022, X’s (then still called Twitter) count of active daily users stood at 254.5 million. This count was for the week preceding the takeover that took place in November 2022.

After the conference, the official revised count for active daily users on X was 245 million, as per a report by The Information. Yaccarino, before giving the specific count, had said that the active daily users were in a range between 200 and 225 million. However, even with the revision, it would mean a loss of about 3.7% of active daily users prior to the acquisition. Even under Musk’s leadership, the number of daily active users has dropped by about 5.6% since mid-November, immediately after the acquisition.
