Apple TV+ Has Cancelled Its Longest-Running Comedy Series

Apple TV+ has officially ended one of its flagship programs, marking the conclusion of its oldest comedy series: Mythic Quest is finished. Here are the details.

Mythic Quest concludes after four seasons on Apple TV+

Mythic Quest is a humorous take on the workplace set against the backdrop of video game development.

The series debuted on February 7, 2020, and has recently completed its fourth season on Apple TV+.

It has consistently been one of Apple’s most acclaimed comedy shows, receiving praise from both critics and audiences alike.

However, despite a dedicated fanbase, it appears that it wasn’t enough for Apple to justify continuing the series.

As reported by Joe Otterson at Variety, Apple TV+ has decided to cancel the show after its four-season journey:

“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, ‘Mythic Quest’ is coming to a close,” said series executive producers Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, and Rob McElhenney. “We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.”

This last detail is particularly noteworthy: Apple has approved modifications to the season 4 finale, allowing the show to wrap up in a more appropriate manner.

Variety states that the modified finale will be available sometime this week.

DMN’s Perspective

The cancellation of Mythic Quest might catch many off guard.

In addition to its substantial run, the series even spawned a recent spin-off, Side Quest.

No official explanation has been provided for the cancellation, but during season 4, I noticed that the show struggled to maintain a high position on the Apple TV+ top charts.

This is concerning under any circumstances, but especially since Mythic Quest was airing concurrently with the second season of Severance.

If a show can’t thrive when Apple TV+ has a heightened viewer engagement, its prospects on the platform become bleak.
